High consumption of sodium fluoride in the public drinking water and toothpaste is toxic,[1] interferes with calcium metabolism, and can lead to the development of skeletal fluorosis. Skeletal fluorosis is a bone disease caused by excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones. Though skeletal fluorosis adds density to bones, it also makes bones and joints weaker, and causes pain. Numerous studies support sodium fluoride as being a toxic substance and the accumulation of fluoride as being harmful to the body.

Fluoride accumulates at its highest concentrations in the pineal gland, because it is attracted to hydroxyapatite (HA) crystallites that calcify the pineal gland. Hydroxyapatite is a mineral form of calcium apatite that has a large surface to hold onto fluoride delivered to the pineal gland via the bloodstream.

Though the pineal gland is positioned in between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, it is not protected by the blood brain barrier that protects the right and left hemispheres. Blood flow is allowed to enter the pineal gland unfiltered depositing large amounts of fluoride, while the blood brain barrier filters fluoride from reaching the right and left hemispheres.

A Harvard study[2] reported:

“…an inverse association between high fluoride exposure and children’s intelligence. Children who lived in areas with high fluoride exposure had lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-exposure or control areas.”

Since fluoride accumulates in a higher concentration in the pineal gland than in the right and left hemispheres, this suggests that the fluoridation of the pineal gland plays a major role in association between high fluoride level and diminished IQ.

It is understood that the pineal gland is responsible for making melatonin which regulates the sleep cycle, produces antioxidants, and regulates women’s puberty and hormones. Yet a full understanding of the pineal gland’s functions is still unknown, and IQ can very will be associated in large degree with the pineal gland.

Pineal gland calcification is as much a concern as the high concentration of fluoride is. Pineal gland calcification is found in two-thirds of the adult population and the calcification increases with age.[3] Calcification of the pineal gland logically interferes with normal tissue activity and gland function.

It is agreed that fluoride is associated with calcification of the pineal gland, but does the fluoridation of the pineal gland cause the calcification as many people think it does?

Interestingly, the brain blood barrier protects much of the brain from contact with fluoride, but the brain can still become heavily calcified. This study[4] links severe calcification of the basal ganglia, floor of cerebral cortices, subcortical white matter, and cerebellum. Interestingly the study stated that “serum calcium and phosphorus were within normal limits, suggesting that intracranial calcification was idiopathic (cause of calcification was unknown).”

Since calcification of the tissues of the brain develops with little to no contact with fluoride, this brings into question fluoride’s role in the development of calcium deposits in the pineal gland. Does fluoride cause the calcification of the pineal gland? This is an important question for people who wish to decalcify the pineal gland by removing fluoride from the gland.

The removal of fluoride did appear to serve a good purpose because studies have shown that high levels of fluoride are harmful to bones and the brain. But will the removal of fluoride help combat calcification? This study[5] showed that fluoride had an anti-calcifying effect in a petri dish. Fortunately the study was also performed in vivo in laboratory rats and it showed consumption of water at a concentration recommended by the (WHO) exhibited artery calcifying effects.

Another study[6] also supported claims that fluoride caused calcification.

“…normal serum concentrations of fluoride can act as a governor on the rate of calcification with fluctuations in the serum phosphate concentration, enhancing when the phosphate is low and inhibiting when it is high. Higher fluoride concentrations show more enhancement and less inhibition.”

Removing excess fluoride from the body should be a priority. Even without the possibility that fluoride triggers calcification, the damage to bones and IQ should make its removal a priority. With the studies that support fluoride playing a role in calcification throughout the body, detoxing from fluoride should be a huge health concern.
