Water Detox: That is all to this detox, just water. This is a strenuous detox and should be approached in a well thought out manner.

A water detox is a good way to cleanse the body of toxins, but since you are not adding nutrients to your body during the detox you need to approach it with caution.

People who do a water detox are usually very disciplined, or are seeking discipline, and often use the time to meditate and clear the mind as well as the body. This applies a “state of rest” to the mind and body and allows for a period of healing.

Though a water detox can be applied for as little as one day, a goal of at least three days allows you to likely clear out all waste moving through the intestines. More disciplined people water detox for a week and even more.

The water detox needs to be approached with caution because there are side affects to doing it. Since you are not eating during the detox you are not adding nutrients to the body.

This can make you very hungry and cause lightheadedness. You can become tired because you are not feeding your body new energy in the form of carbohydrates and fat. You are also not feeding your body vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients to support bodily functions like muscle movement.

This is why it is good to rest during a water detox and just let the detox cleanse the body.

Water Detox Benefits

1. Not eating food allows the body to clear waste and toxins from the digestive tract.

2. Not eating food lessens the work load of the liver, kidneys, and skin in removing toxins from the body. This gives the overwhelmed and overworked organs time to heal and repair themselves.

3. Not eating food forces the body to use its stored fat for energy resulting in weight loss. Toxins are also stored in fats and the release of fats also releases toxins which can be more easily removed from the body.

4. Consuming the recommended amount of water rehydrates the body’s organs strengthening the organs to function more effectively.

5. Consuming the recommended amount of water alone dilutes the toxins in the bloodstream making for easier removal.

A water detox is beneficial in supporting healthy living and water based detoxes like a “lemon and water detox” or using a “cucumber detox water recipe” are also helpful.
