Consuming alkaline foods helps to support homeostasis and the optimal functioning of the body. The chronic consumption of acidic foods lead to either cute metabolic acidosis that results in shock and death, or chronic metabolic acidosis which is a chronic illness.

Chronic acidosis leads to the breakdown of organs and various processes throughout the body that presents as various chronic diseases.

The body works to maintain a pH around 7.4 (between 7.35 and 7.45) in the blood, and when it drops below this it results in either acute or chronic metabolic acidosis.

The body has various buffering mechanisms to keep the blood a the proper pH. When the pH level is threatened the body will leach the alkaline calcium mineral from the bone to put into the blood. This eventually weakens the bones and leads to the development of osteoporosis and other illness.

Simply eating alkaline foods will help avoid this by flooding the body with more alkaline material than acidic material.
