Nano-Diamonds Use In The Fight Against Cancer
A study[1] published in Nature Communications revealed how synthetic nano-diamonds may used in the fight against cancer. Nano-diamonds may not only be a girl’s best friend, but might be a friend to all people battling cancer.
The researchers were able to hyperpolarize the synthetic nano-particles which allows them to be tracked with Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). By themselves the nano-diamonds are not helpful in the treatment of cancer, but once the nano-particles are fused with chemotherapy drugs that are attracted to cancer they would play a part in cancer therapy.
MRI’s would be able to track the chemotherapy fused nano-diamonds as they accumulate in areas of the body that are affected by cancer. The will help doctors pinpoint where cancer is in the body more precisely than using scans alone.
The researcher’s next step is to use the chemotherapy bonded nano-diamonds on mice to perfect the treatment and then hopefully proceed tho human clinical trials.

“This is a great example of how quantum physics research tackles real-world problems, in this case opening the way for us to image and target cancers long before they become life-threatening.”
