Tropical Storm Erika Downgraded After Wreaking Havoc
August, 29, 2015, the The National Hurricane Center has said tropical Storm Erika has been downgraded to a tropical wave or low pressure system, but is still headed toward the United States.
The Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Caribbean island of Dominica reported that tropical storm is responsible for killing at least 20 people and 30 people missing, dues to torrential rainfall.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told his country:
“Rest assured, my brothers and sisters, you are not alone in your period of mourning in your period of pain, in your period of suffering and anxiety.”
“We are in this together and help is coming your way.”
Torrential rain also hit parts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti with over two feet of rain. Five people were reported killed in Haiti as a result of the storm.
The low pressure system is currently over Cuba and is making its way towards the U.S., and is expected to arrive on Sunday morning in Florida. The low pressure system is being carefully watched because some models indicate it might restrengthen.
Erika is expected to dump three-to-five inches on south Florida, which can help areas that have been experiencing extreme drought.
